Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about ScreenPiano
1. Is ScreenPiano completely free to use?
Yes, 100% free. ScreenPiano requires no subscription, no credit cards, and no user registration. You can bookmark and practice anytime.
2. Where do the piano sound samples come from?
Our audio engine uses high-fidelity acoustic samples recorded from a Yamaha C5 grand piano, based on Alexander Holm's open-source Salamander Grand Piano project. Check our Credits page for details.
3. Why is there no sound on my iPhone or iPad?
Make sure the side switch on your iPhone or iPad is not in silent mode (no orange showing), then tap a key again.
4. Can I play chords on a computer keyboard?
Yes. You can press multiple keyboard letters simultaneously (for example, T + U + O for C Major, or O + A + D for G Major). Modern keyboards feature multi-key rollover so chords ring out in full polyphony. Check our chord chart above for common shapes.
5. Can I change the visible number of keys?
Yes. Use the "Keys" selector in the top toolbar to switch between 13, 25, 37, 49, 61, or full 88-key piano layouts. Your choice is automatically remembered on your device.
6. Do you track my personal browsing data?
No. ScreenPiano does not use advertising tracking cookies or store personal information. Read our full Privacy Policy for our commitments.
7. How do I practice piano with notes and letter sheets online?
ScreenPiano displays pitch names (such as C4, D4, E4) on keys alongside physical computer keyboard letters. You can start with our beginner melody sheets above and practice playing popular progressions without reading traditional sheet music.
8. What is the difference between virtual piano keybinds and a real piano?
Real acoustic pianos have 88 weighted keys, whereas ScreenPiano maps standard QWERTY computer keys across 36 continuous white keys with Shift-combinations for black keys. This lets you practice melodies, intervals, and finger coordination anywhere without physical piano hardware.
